HubPages has a lot of advantages and one of them is the fact that you have complete control over your profile. You want to create something that works for you. This can include a good introduction to you, your personal links, and even some links to your hubs if you want.

Getting Started

  1. Start by clicking the “edit profile” button.
  2. On the left-hand side you can edit your picture and your email preferences.
  3. On the right-hand side you can change your profile and your personal information. Your personal information is completely optional. Occasionally they do contests and other things that allow writers to make additional money, however if you win a contest, you will need to provide them with some additional, personal details and sign a release to receive your payment.
  4. Filling in your profile page is very important because this gives you the option to share a piece of yourself which builds a connection between you and your readers and to increase your earnings.

Your Profile

You don’t have to take a lot of time in the beginning to fill out your profile. However, at some point you need to make sure that you are filling in your profile box with all of the best details. Putting some time and thought into is the best thing that you can do.

  • Your info. You don’t have to give your readers all of the juicy details or long and complicated stories that make you, you. However, it is a good idea to include at least a few details that will share with your readers a bit about you. The details that you choose to share are completely up to you.
  • Your links. Your profile offers you a great place to put your links. You may want to link to your blogs, website, or somewhere else. However, you want to place these links into your profile in a way that gives your readers more of you, but doesn’t feel spammy. You also want to make sure that you aren’t pumping the profile with too many links.
  • Other. You really do have a lot of options to do with your profile. One option is to include links to various hubs you think will help people. You can offer some advice to others. You can share your dreams and hopes. You have a lot of choices!

Editing Your Profile

Your profile box is really easy to edit. Here you will type out the information you want to add to your profile. You can bold using the B found at the top left of the page. Italics use the I and underlining uses the U. You can select any of these features and then type your text out in that manner or you can choose to select and highlight portions and change them after you have finished typing them.

Next to the letters that allow you to format text are two arrows. The first points to the left and is the undo button, and the second points to the right and is the redo button. These allow you to undo and redo various editing features. Use them to help you create the perfect profile.

Finally, you have the link and unlink buttons. The first looks like a sideways 8 or infinity sign. Here on HubPages, one may also describe it as a chain. This allows you to make links. First, highlight or select the text you wish to make a link, and then click on the link button. By clicking this, a box will pop up and allow you to enter the URL (web address) that you want to link to or you can quickly scroll through your hubs and pick out ones to link to. The last tool above the profile box is a broken chain. It is used to break the links that you have created. Highlight the text and click this button and it will remove the links.

Your HubPage profile has a lot of options for you. You can make a huge difference in how others see you, as well as what you can do with your profile. You can use it to draw in traffic to your other sites, and to make your readers feel a connection with you.
