Congressional SOPA hearings: no opponents of the bill allowed 116

Spot It! Spot It! 932

Congressional SOPA hearings: no opponents of the bill allowed As the House of Representatives opens hearings on SOPA, the worst piece of Internet legislation in American history, it has rejected all submissions and testimony from public interest groups and others who oppose the bill.

Irony Alert: The House is holding hearings on sweeping Internet censorship legislation this week — and it’s censoring the opposition! The bill is backed by Hollywood, Big Pharma, and the Chamber of Commerce, and all of them are going to get to testify at the hearing.

But the bill’s opponents — tech companies, free speech and human rights activists, and hundreds of thousands of Internet users — won’t have a voice.

Don’t Censor Censorship Opponents: Let Us Testify!

The radiator booster

Radiators are pretty inefficient heating machines. They don’t, for instance, radiate so much as make the wall they’re leaning up against really hot. That’s lost efficiency right there since the heat that went into the wall or even the ceiling right above the radiator is heat that didn’t go into preventing you from freezing. With winter pretty much here, something like this Radiator Booster...

Anonymous Also Fighting Protect ip

Some questioned if recent in-fighting between hacker collective Anonymous’ more vocal members would affect the group’s efficacy combating its latest target, the “Protect IP” bill. Considering the group launched a DDoS attack on Monday which temporarily knocked out service to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s official website, the answer is fairly clear: it didn’t. ZeroPaid noticed the website...

Shouldn't the human race have their right to speak instead of hiding in the shadows under the big guns? Shouldn't Congress be thinking about our rights? If I must say so myself doesn't this go against our constitution? Our freedom? You people will be destroying out freedom our internet rights. Listen to us the people not the rich folk! • What. This is just fucked up. If this happens, we're screwed. Everyone who has uploaded copyrighted content (or downloaded) would be sent to jail. That would include kids. KIDS. They probably download things all the time. It wouldn't be very fair of the government to throw a kid in [juvie] jail and rob them of the rest of their childhood and half of their teenage years. I seriously hope this bill somehow doesn't get passed. If it does... game over. (P.S. I am a Let's Player on YouTube. If this bill passes then I'm pretty much in jeopardy of being thrown in jail. I'd have to close my account in order to protect myself from getting located and arrested :/ )

And if Obama doesn't keep his promise to veto it... There will be so many people up in arms over this. I don't even mean that figuratively, this could well be the straw that breaks the camel's back leading to a revolution against the government. Trying to pass the bill is one thing, but blocking any opposition to it from voicing their opinions? When its special interest groups and companies that are pushing for this bill in the first place? That's not democracy, that's goddamn facism. I can only pray there are still a few sane people in Washington who see this bill for what it really represents.

I don't know about anyone else, but censorship of any opposition is exactly what I'd expect from a government considering a bill supporting censorship.

If the bill survives the committee's questions during this hearing (and many, many don't), then it goes on into public hearings where both sides get to testify. You can bet the big national opponents will be there then, and even though most of us wont be we have a duty to call our legislators and tell them that we'll vote them out of office if they dare support this.

  • If this bill passes and hopefully it won't, it is going to a massive war and riots. The backlash from the citizens is going to be epic and if this passes I hope the government gets everything they deserve from very angry people.

  • They can't continue this system after the pre purchase comes out, http://www.guildwars2items.com/ GW2 Gold I mean people will be pretty mad if they play during one weekend with one char and then it's gone. They have to wait another month to step in Tyria to start all over again. This is another flaw. Sure it'll be fun at the beggining, to try another races / factions, though in 8 months you can try them all, also you're playing for only 3 days per month. So yeah, the system will eventually be changed because Anet won't risk losing this player base. What happens after the pre purchase http://www.gw2goldus.com/ Guild Wars 2 Gold ? Will it be gone or people who buy after the date will still be able to buy it? That means the number will just keep increasing and soon it'll be over one million. That's why I'm saying, just give us the game already!
