Computer on the verge of blowing up...

I've come to the grim realization that my computer is on its death bed. BSOD almost regularly, seemingly every time I attempt to turn it on. I think it's time invest in something new. Worry not, however; I will be making this computer from parts I buy, not some prefabricated, overpriced junk. Also, I've never been a laptop type of guy so I won't be looking at those (old-school guy here). Any suggestions on parts?

Something I will not be getting.
