    Cave People

    Posted about 4 years ago

An entire village of Maew (Miao) people in China is living in a cave which is about 700 feet deep. They have houses, a school where children study during day time. Their building don't have roofs because they don't need them. It's amazing how people are living there.

    • that's very interesting

    • What I find most interesting is that some of the buildings still have the peaked framework - as if they were built with the knowledge that duisings have pointy tops, even if they don't actually need a roof

    • I guess they don't build roofs so it would be brighter in the house. I think the house must have a room with a roof, so stuff from the ceiling won't fall on them

    • those guys live in china. they got an assembly kit for the houses from the state

    • Why would a culture that is thousands of years old need crappy shit from the states? lol you guys are a bunch of losers who didnt do anything on their own, only got it handed to you on a plate from other cultures. dont say shit man

    • I believe what the above comment meant by "state" was not the United States, but from the government. In China. They got the house kit from the Chinese Government. They did not finish the roof seeing as how they did not need to. since it was a kit-home, that was built into the frame.

    • Yeah, dude, "from the state" means "from the government." You can try to act superior to someone based on their nationality by screaming inane claims at them having things "handed to them" etc, etc, but at least understand the language spoken. Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. Please study history and English. Thanks.

    • If you look at it from an architectural view point, the a-frame peaks don't just support the roof but the wholr house structure. The triangle is a stronger shape then a square, if you put four walls together to form a square or rectangle they can skew to form a diamond (or just generally collapse), the support of triangular a-frame stops this from happening.

    • the population of france is less than the number of people living in caves in china. guess this goes to show why
      Avatar_smallabout 4 years agoby dude
    • I think the roof trusses are there to stabilize the walls from caving in or out. Or this is a hoax

    • Um, the village isn't in the cave, only the school is: http://www.reuters.com/news/pictures/slideshow?collectionId=1291

    • judging from the pictures, there are many huts there. Looks like there's more than a school there

    • It's interesting. The Reuters articles explains the cave was naturally formed, but from the pictures, the indentations in the cave ceiling almost make it look people have been carving out chunks to enlarge the cavern. Just different from the cave ceilings I've seen, but then again, I haven't seen many.

    • Those kids eyes are gonna be shot by the time they're twenty. Look at them trying to study virtually in the dark (no, this is not a pun about communism

    • This is crazy---commune like---kids eyes are going to be shot---talk about isolationism--- just crazy--- then again, who would want to live in any Chinese city
      Avatar_smallabout 4 years agoby Anonymous
    • you're right, it's too unhealthy to study with so little light. can't imagine reading anything in those conditions. However maybe they are used to it.

    • guess what, those kids would rather have short eye sight than live that kind of life forever, getting educated is their only hope. i'm from china by the way, and i'm ashamed that my governement don't do even close to enough for the poor, while pouring billions into fancy stadiums and skyscrapers

    • Im sure at certain times of the year water could seep thought the roof of the cave or perhaps the consolidation of condensation on the cave roof would create a cause for the need of a house roof. They obviously need the light more than the protection from the elements when these photos were taken. I would love to go to china!! from what i keep seeing its a very special place on this planet

    • I think its amazing that even could build something like that. Of course, not all of China is like that, so anyone who says they wouldn't want to live in any Chinese city... I have a penpal from China, of course he doesn't like somethings but he believes that they have change a lot in the past ten years

    • They are remnants of those who fled to hide in the cave when the Qing Imperial Armies launched the SAI MIAO POLICY which means "to exterminate the Miao people." This led to the Miao Guizhou Uprising. The Hmong in the west still carry stories of the wars and rebellions.
