A woman used her husband's Vodafone mobile phone to download four episodes of Friends. The download was interrupted when the man left his home in the UK for a business trip in Germany. As the plane landed the download continued. Upon returning to the UK Vodafone alerted him about the huge data charge in the mail. Based on a punishing out-of-network rate the four episodes cost him $22,000.
This isn't the first time phone companies exploit their customers this way. The EU commissioner has given phone companies until the first of July to justify the exorbitant cross-boundary charges.
