Another International Airport to be constructed in Lagos
Arik Air News: The Lagos State Government is starting the construction on the new Lekki International Airport which is expected to begin functioning in May 2012. The entire project is expected to cost N 102 billion or ( $ 650 billion ). The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Adeniyi Oyemade, a Public Private Partnership projector said that the future airport would handle 5 million passengers annually. The location approval intended for the Lekki International Airport has been obtained by the state government from the Ferderal ministry of aviation and finished the master plan on the 3500 hectares of land for the project. The Governor has also approved the execution of the topographical and geotechnical survey of the 3500 hectares of land allotted for the Airport. Its construction will engage over 2,000 direct and indirect workers. The state government has appointed a United Kingdom based firm, A Mace Group as a International Development Unit (IDU) team as a project manager for the preparation of a master plan for the new International Airport which will be constructed right next to the 16,500 hectares Lekki Free Trade Zone. The state government has also appointed a commercial adviser who will help the state government in putting the data’s that will be sent out to prospective investors who will send in their codes for the project. The time-frame for the whole project is one year and will start it’s operation in May of the next year.
