A Cup of Alamid Coffee at the Frazzled Cook
Last July, we were invited to an intimate gathering of media people and bloggers for the formal partnership of Alamid Café Express and the Frazzled Cook.
The Frazzled Cook is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant located at 916 Luna Mencias St. Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City. Alamid Café Express is a pioneer in the development and distribution of different coffee beans, including the Alamid coffee.
In this partnership, seasoned coffee lovers and those who are interested with different kinds of brewed coffee can now enjoy a cup of freshly brewed Alamid coffee from Frazzled Cook.
What is Alamid Coffee?
Alamid is a breed of civet cat endemic in the Philippines. These animals live in forested mountains and feed on coffee beans. Alamids are not able to digest these beans and well, move them eventually. These undigested beans are then harvested and brewed.
Alamid coffee beans are hard to find and harvest that’s why many coffee companies pay top dollar (or peso) for them. Alamid cats used to be endangered species but farmers have been educated with their value and are now working with coffee companies to protect them.
Alamid Café Express and Frazzled Cook partnership
The people of Alamid Café Express take pride in this partnership. They chose Frazzled Cook to carry their Alamid coffee line because it’s the only restaurant that brews the beans exactly the way Alamid Café Express want it.
There are basically two ways to prepare it—via siphon and via French Press. We witnessed how Frazzled Cook prepared a cup of Alamid coffee via the French press. Preparing a cup takes exactly three minutes. It is literally pressing the coffee beans but pressing should be done very lightly. Pressing it too quickly would bring a lot of coffee residues.
The result? A nice cup of coffee! I’m no coffee connoisseur but I do love a fresh cup of brewed coffee. Alamid coffee tastes nice and strong. There’s no aftertaste—“clean” is the term—which is common with instant coffee.
A cup of Alamid coffee in Frazzled Cook costs PhP295. The one I saw in Rowena’s in Tagaytay costs PhP300 per cup so Frazzled Cook’s is cheaper. Plus you don’t have to go to Tagaytay!
There are other civet coffees in other cares. But I support Filipino products and Alamid Café Express is definitely one proud Filipino company. Remember that when you buy a cup of Alamid coffee, you also help bring livelihood to coffee farmers.
Treat yourself to a cup of Alamid coffee. The Frazzled Cook is located at 916 Luna Mencias St. Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City. You can call for reservation at 725-3354 or 728-5980.
