What Happens When Private Citizens Carry Hand Guns.

A lot has been written and cussed and discussed about whether citizens should be allowed to carry concealed hand guns. Today I saw what happens when private citizens carry hand guns.

As for me, I have always been for the proposition that we should be allowed to defend ourselves. I firmly believe that when guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns. But today I saw what really happens when private citizens are allowed to carry hand guns.

In the state of Texas there are several ways a citizen can carry a gun. One is to become a certified peace officer. Another is to become a certified security guard. And of course, a citizen can always get a permit issued by the State of Texas to carry a hand gun. Today I saw what happens when private citizens are allowed to carry hand guns.

Hand gun permits in Texas are not just handed out like drivers licenses. There are certain rules and qualifications to be met. One is that the licensee be proficient in the use of the firearm he/she is permitted to carry. Another rule (dumb if you ask me, but no one asked me) is that you must not be delinquent in any money owed to the government such as taxes, student loans, parking tickets, etc. And you must be of good moral character. Today I saw what really happens when private citizens are allowed to carry hand guns.

The day started out just like any other ho-hum day. My wife and I worked for a little while and then decided to have a late breakfast. We made our way to a Jack-In-The-Box where we thought we could get a really fast breakfast and return to work. It never even occurred to us that we were about to get a lesson in what really happens when private citizens are allowed to carry hand guns.

We pulled into the drive way and found a parking slot right in front of the door. Just as we pulled into the parking lot another car followed us in. It was occupied by what is affectionately known as a little old lady.

You know the type. Big car, big George Burns type eye glasses, sliver hair, just tall enough to see through the steering wheel. In the 1970’s these ladies were referred to as “little old ladies in white tennis shoes”. She too was about to experience first hand what happens when private citizens are allowed to carry hand guns.

This lady exited her car, put her purse on her shoulder, and walked to the door. My wife and I were still in the car deciding what to order. As the lady approached the door a big man came up behind her and pushed her into the door real hard. Then he tried to grab her purse. Another man was, at the same time, coming out of the building.

The lady was trying to hold on to her purse while the mugger kept saying “let it go”. Finally, the mugger said “let go or I’m gonna shoot your fucking ass!”.

The man coming out of the building heard this and low and behold he reached under his t-shirt and pulled out a 9mm glock! He pointed it at the mugger and yelled “get on the ground!! I’ll shoot - I’m gonna shoot - get on the ground!”

As the mugger lay on the parking lot, the Samaritan held the gun in one hand while he called 911 on his cell phone with the other. People were running and hiding everywhere.

Within a few seconds the parking lot was full of police. Motorcycle police running a speed trap were only a block away. The mugger was arrested and the lady was taken by ambulance to the hospital. She had a heart condition which the mugger, through his actions, aggravated.

I hope this lady is ok. I watched for this to appear on the 6:00 o’clock news but it did not. So I waited for it on the 10:00 o’clock news but not there either. I guess it does not matter that it was not reported on the news. What does matter is that I now know what happens when private citizens are allowed to carry hand guns.

Child Support

Just the mention of child support conjures up images of lawyers, judges, and endless legal expenses. Nevertheless, of all the considerations in a divorce none equals the importance of determining the correct amount of child support. Some divorcing couples come to an agreement on child support. It is always best to seek legal advice from an attorney before entering into such an arrangement. For those that do not agree, a court must determine the amount to be paid. Most jurisdictions have a formula that the court applies. Some Judges consider one third of the paying parent’s gross income plus

Mirror Mirror On The Wall...

As I shaved this morning I saw the reflection of a man I no longer know. I saw a man that has grown old and weak. I saw the shell of a man once proud and strong. A beaten old man willing to “go along to get along”. And I thought to myself; mirror mirror on the wall…I watched in utter amazement as President Bush pretended to chastise the people of China for human rights abuse. Does the President of the United States ever look in the mirror? Does he daily practice his chant: mirror mirror on the wall…When and if he does look in the mirror does the Vice President really answer him:

Do you it would be better if everyone carried guns with them? If everyone had a gun then they would be a potential threat to everyone especially the police.

That's because there are more good people than bad.

On the one hand you are right, people would be able to take care of themselves and everyone around them if they had hand guns. But there is another side to this. I completely agree that there are more "good" people (ones who don't want to mug or kill you) than bad. But would you feel safe if you knew that everyone around you had a gun? A person who is generally "good" may become very violent and upset (due to various reasons) and start shooting everyone.
What about kids? they can also get their hand on a gun and injure(kill) themselves or others. If everyone carried gun then the robbers would also consider civilians a possible threat and rather then taking them hostage they could kill them. There's just no 1 answer to this issue. I personally like guns, I like shooting and I believe a person who wishes to own a gun should have one but I wouldn't want everyone around me to have one.
