Swimming with Animals

It's not everyday you can see swimming lions but it's a common thing at TIGERS ( The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species)

Dr Bhagavan Antle has been caring for the animals there for 25 years and teaching the to swim.

She said that swimming with tigers enriches their lives.

"We found we could manipulate them more easily in the water."

"Then we tried swimming with other animals, and the orangutans in particular loved it."

The orangutan Suryl loves swimming but he wears a life jacket because he doesn't like to get his head wet.

Tigers are natural swimmers and enjoy a dip after a long day.

Another natural swimmer at TIGERS is the aquatic tapir who has been swimming since he was the size of a shoe box.

"Like human babies, they only want to play."

Dolphins stranded in a River in Cornwall

26 dolphins died when they swam in the Percuil River, near Falmouth. For some reason they left the deeps waters and swam into the shallows where they were stranded. Only 7 were rescued. The British Divers Marine Life Rescue suggests that a Navy ships' sonar may be responsible . It could have disorientated the dolphins which caused them to swim into the shallow water.
