26 dolphins died when they swam in the Percuil River, near Falmouth. For some reason they left the deeps waters and swam into the shallows where they were stranded. Only 7 were rescued.
The British Divers Marine Life Rescue suggests that a Navy ships' sonar may be responsible . It could have disorientated the dolphins which caused them to swim into the shallow water.
Dolphins' family-unity also may have played a role in this tragedy. If one dolphins becomes lost he calls others for help.
