It's incredible that in the XXI century we have so many working children. These photos are from Bolivia.

Stop and Hear the Music

Will one of the nation's greatest musicians be noticed in a D.C. Metro stop during rush hour? Violinist Joshua Bell experimented for Gene Weingarten's Sunday Magazine story in The Washington Post. It's amazing how people are so stressed that they don't even stop for a moment!

If you want to eat then you will have to work for it. It's much better than starving to death like in african countries.

yes, I know. but what I would like is that everybody had enough to live a decent life

That would be nice but sadly not possible. In order for a man to live in luxury others have to provide it.

I'm sure some do earn decent money but there will always be people who despite their efforts(or because they don't want to) are going to live a poor live. Those people have kids, the kids get photographed and we have more child labor photos.
I also know that once you get accustomed to it there's almost no way to get back to "normal" live. I know of many examples where many homeless were offered jobs but they refused saying their better of not working.

I can't agree with your "because they don't want to". Life is hard to change and some people can't figure the way out and no one helps them. We need to have some culture to understand that changes can be in our hands.

that's what i've said, some just can't break free of the poverty despite their best efforts.
There are also people who just don't want to change anything. They like the life they have.

that's right and I have pity about the ones that can't go further even if they wish it.

I would say that I still prefer kids working, than kids fighting. It hurts when you see small boys with machine-guns in Africa or in Gaza. I am against the child labor, but you have to change the entire economic models in these countries. You cannot put in jail parents because their force kids to work, since if that happen, orphan kids will for sure starve to death...

you're right. What is necessary is to give enough sustain for the families so than they can afford a child without working. But it hurts to see these kids eyes. they have no childhood. And it also revolts me to see children with arms.

In Portugal we still have children work even being illegal. It's sad but somehow understandable if we think that those families have to live with very low incomes and they need all the family. What I don't understand is a country as Portugal that as the highest salaries in Europe for some professions and the lowest as well. It's incredible how a small country protects so much the rich and "forget" the majority of the population. But this is politics.. :)

I would be happy to argue with you a bit. I lived in four different countries, and experienced Socialism, Capitalist Socialism, and Pure Capitalism. The only way to equalize the society its shift towards Socialism, increasing taxes, and redistributing wealth from rich to poor. That is probably just, but not effective. Why should I work more and try harder, if government takes everything extra from me, if I am high-paid professional. Why should I work at all, if government gives me a descent level of life, no matter how and if I work, if I am low-paid worker or unemployed. I want rich to get richer, since they generate working places for all. I want that 20-year old mom stop making chldren every year just because it will help her to get descent social security income. People should be discouraged to be lazy and passive, and not the opposite.

I agree with you but what I see in this world is that the only thing that rules is the power of some and the protection they give to the ones that support them no matter what quality work they do. It's hard to be supported when you do a good work on your own because there's no value for the lobbies. And I really think that always will be lobbies ruling us and that democracy is something that doesn't exist out of the written words of the constitutions. As I grow old I only believe less and less in ideals and true values..

As a child I though that every job is important and everyone should be paid equally. For example a man who cleans the streets and shovels snow should be paid as much as a political figure because if it weren't for him no one would get to work. Now I know that people spend much time studying for their professions than others. A doctor spends as many as 10 years studying and the no education is needed to be cleaning streets. Not to mentions the level of responsibility a doctor has.

I agree with you but I also think that everybody should have the same opportunities to study and become a qualified worker.
