Beijing Airport

I think it's really nice. China has very good and creative architects and, of course is trying to impress all the world with the Olympic Games.

Did you like China? I'm not asking about landscapes, that are surely amazing, but about the human factor

Yes, I do. I came there for business trip, and I liked it so much, that I brought my wife there for vacation. People in big cities are nice and friendly. In small cities, they nice too, but they do not speak English a bit, and they still afraid to communicate with foreigners (Communist-era fear is still deep in their heads). China is a future of this World...

My sister lived in Macao for some years and she liked China very much too. But it was in the old times and people were very afraid to talk. About the chinese in Macao she didn't have a very good opinion. Most of them were there for business. One thing she told about chinese it's that they have a completely different logic. What's logic for us it's not for them and vice versa.

It is much easier for me to deal with China or Singapore, than with Japan or Korea.

They are harder for me to understand. Korean are very tough in communication and negotiation, and Japanese are very structural community: it makes sense, if the manager said so.

I don't feel at ease when I go to a place where I can't understand people. I felt this for the first time when I went to Morocco.

How did you like Morocco in general?

I was there in 1980, it was long ago and I think Morocco is completely different today. It was my first experience out of Europe, in a completely different culture and with a language that I couldn't understand. We were 4 in a Citroen Dyane that stopped to work in the crossing to Ceuta. Fortunatly in Ceuta, the Spanish were incredible and in the 15 of August, a holiday with no opened businesses, they went to call friends to help us. Ceuta is a beautiful city with a lot of Portuguese remains. In Morocco, we were never at ease. First of all they always tried to cheat us in business, second there was always somebody running after us to sell something and it was hard to convince him that we didn't want it. But the cities are interesting and nice because they are completely different of Europe and they have very nice buildings.

I know, what you mean. In this kind of countries, European and American are natural targets for scam. They are all rich and stupid. That is, when we go plan a trip (like, in Egypt), we always so our homework and try to use local guides, that we can trust more or less.

The funny thing about it was that when they began to ask for a very high price and we refused and offered a much lower price they asked where were we from and when we told that we were Portuguese more than one told that it wasn't possible to discuss prices with portuguese and they lowered the price saying it was the less that they could do! We are famous for discussing prices! lol

Did not know, that Portuguese are famous for getting bargain pricing. Personally, it is almost impossible for me to bargain, I am getting tired of that fast enough. We are probably the unique people, that purchased the first house we saw on the market :)

Portuguese were used to bargain in the old times. We weren't still in the consumption society. We were used to go to markets and have to discuss prices with sellers. It was our way of living. That doesn't exist anymore..

That you can see still plenty in Israel, where if you do not bargain on the market, you do not respect the seller.

I believe it's similar. I was never in Israel but my parents were.
