The Warren Invocation

So I have been thinking about this Rick Warren thing for Obama's inauguration innvocation and now I think I am OK with it. Of course there are lots of politics in Warren that I don't agree with, but for the most part he is a good person trying to help out the country and by extension the world and that is what I think Obama is all about. He doesn't want to choose left or right, he wants good people surrounding him and making sure that the country is served properly. I think that there are a lot of people that will be upset with this, but sometimes the President has to make hard choices to bring [more]

Steve Jobs and the Big Three

PBS's Cringely had an interesting Op Ed about the idea of Steve Jobs being given the reins at the big three to try and bring them around and I think I agree with him ( article here:http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/2008/pulpit_20081207_005508.html). Steve Jobs is known for being bold, innovative and a risk taker that knows what the people think. I mean he has come out consistanty with products like the iphone and the imac that have changed the indusrty and that is really what the car industry needs. Someone to come in and change their course 180 degress to find something new and bring people [more]

Man looks for job with sandwich board

If this isn’t a sign of a depressing I don’t know what is. We have never seen a level of despair like this in our lifetime and I doubt it has ever happened since the era of the great depression. What is the government doing!? We need to do more to stimulate this economy and get people working now! As Keynes said, there is no time to worry about the long run, in the long run we will all be dead – now is what matters. People are suffering now and the government must take more action now. See the full article about this man here. [more]

Polaroid - End of an Era

Well we have now completly moved from the silver salts to the digital pixels when it comes to cameras - polariod, the famous instant photo company is no longer producting it's instant photo film. It is crazy to think that when I was a kid they were still the most popular cameras for high school events, parties, and even family outings. Now they have been replaces by sleek, professional and cheap digital cameras that can take 1000s of pictures at no cost with perfect quality. It is a step in the right direction because it no longer requires the consumer to spend endless amounts of money on film [more]

Teach the Bailout

Ain't this the truth. They need to start teaching this in school so that business execs don't look like phonies when they accept bailout money. That can be right after the class "Make a business so big that needs a bailout - never make small business" [more]

Yar! Pirates!

Ok, so what is the deal with pirates all over the place lately? An oil tanker gets jacked then a couple of cruise liners? I mean seriously, pirates? What is crazy is that they usually run in little speed boats like the one pictured above and are able to take over cruise ships that tower in the ocean. I just wonder why we don't train our maritime staff for stuff like this and make sure that they are well armed enough to deal with these people. I am not talking anything crazy, but a few well placed guns and the high ground advantage should deal with the sea terrorist situation pretty easily [more]

Can the Holidays Survive?

OK so the fabled Black Friday and Cyber Monday Shopping days weren't as bad as retailers had thought according to CNN, but does that mean the rest of the holidays can survive and our society consumerism can pull us through these hard times? Unfortunately I don't think so. FIrst off, the reason these shopping holidays were big was because we have fewer shopping days this holiday season (thanksgiving is at the end of the month, not the week before the end of the month) and more people are looking for deals out there. Time and money are tight so people want to stock up on the best savings and [more]

Bike Emissions = My Methane

This shirt is great! Everyone farts and we all know it so it nice to admit that traveling by bike isn't 100% enviromentally friendly since you are still emitting the toxic gas methane. I know, I know it is just a joke, but we need to have a little sense of humor about climate change with shirts like this so that people get used to, accept it, and ultimately adapt their personality to fit into this life style. I'll tell you one thing for sure, I would much rather have a lot of people fartting around on bikes than not farting and driving cars that's for sure. [more]

Circuit City Ads

So now that Circuit CIty is in Bankruptcy and they are closing stores left and right, how is it that they are able to afford all the advertising that I see for them now? It seems like every time I hear about a company that is going under they seem to have more and more advertising on TV, the internet and espically in newspapers. Shouldn't they be using that money to restructure the company and save as many jobs as possible? That's what is messed up about companies, they spend all the money on themselves and forget about the people that make the company great. I mean that is how circuit city [more]
