Presidential Elections in Georgia

Yesterday, Georgia held Presidential elections and according to official results Michail Saakashvili won with 52.8%. His challenger Levan Gachechiladze got only 27%

I've been watching different news reports and the they were always different depending on the channel. The western media agrees with the official results and Russian media focused on the controversy of the exit poll and the official results.

According to the exit poll Levan Gachechiladze came first with 31% and Michail Saakashvili came second with 24% The Georgian opposition does not agree with the official results saying the vote was rigged and will rally people to protest.

The official observers said the election were fair and democratic and they have not spotted any serious violations. The US said the opposition should respect the reports from Western observers.

There were 2 referendums conducted in parallel with the presidential elections one referendum was about rescheduling the parliamentary elections to April (this was one of the opposition's main demands) according to constitution the parliamentary elections are to be held this fall) And 60% of Georgians voted are in favor of conducting elections in April. So It doesn't make sense. Why would people support the opposition's idea and not the opposition?

The second referendum was on whether Georgians support accession to NATO, exit polls say 61% of Georgians are in favour of the idea.

I saw this contest on tv a some years ago. I want to say that's just stupid, how can a man beat a bear at an eating contest? i mean it's like beating a fish at swimming. That show was stupid but i liked how that bear ate the hot dogs :)

Let's just hope that everything goes on smoothly after the election without any violence erupted there after. I'm sure that the election process were done in the best possible manner and fair. The people would appreciate this of course

The officials guarantee fair process, so let's just hope that the people be relaxed and refrain from an outburst of emotion if their candidate is on a verge of losing and the opposition wins

I'm sure that this was a fair and square election. Because I don't live in Georgia it doesn't really concern me but I hope that they will accept their new president with a lot of pride

I think the official in Georgia must have done their work well and the election should be square. Others (outsiders) should not interrupt Georgia business and mind your own business. I hink they should accept what had happen

I hope that Georgia's election will be a smooth one. I even hope to school there at Georgia State University. It's just that I dont have that 20,000 dollars for tuition and everything else including books and dormitory. Anyway, going back to the topic... Having specialized and well-organized officers will just make Georgia even better than before! :D
