According to Palestinian officials two Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed at least 8 people and 25 more were wounded on Wednesday. One attack was an air strike on a car which left 4 people dead and the other was shelling which also killed 4 people in the town Beit Hanoun.
Mortuary officials said the people killed in the car were members of the armed group Army of Islam. The group was involved in the kidnapping of Alan Johnston, a BBC reporter, in March.
According to Israel they were responding to ongoing rocket and mortar fire from Gaza at Israeli border towns .
Investigators know who killed journalist Anna Politkovskaya but they have not determined who ordered the kill. Politkovskaya became known for her reports about atrocities against civilians in Chechnya, was shot in the entryway of her Moscow apartment building on October 7, 2006. IAEA says Iran has made some progress in revealing the extent of its nuclear programme but is still defying UN demands to suspend uranium enrichment. Iranian chief negotiator Saeed Jalili said that the information provided to the IAEA shows that Iran is still far away to produce nuclear weapons and should defuse calls for further sanctions. /futher more he said that a third round of sanctions would effect cooperation with IAEA.
