In Spain's northern Basque country a car exploded killing a bodyguard working for a local Socialist party politician. The blast occured in Bilbao at 11:25 GMT on Tuesday. The spanish media reporded this as a car bomb, but no confirmation has yet been given from the officials.
"The car caught fire and one person left the vehicle," said a police spokesman.
While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, attention immediately focused on the separatist group ETA, which resumed full-scale attacks in August after calling off a ceasefire.
Many public figures in the Basque region use bodyguards to protect against ETA attacks and the police haven't told who the bodyguard been protecting
Spanish National Radio and other Spanish media said the guard was assigned to a Socialist member of the city council of the Basque village of Galdakao .
