Ok, so I'm here reading the paper and I can't get my head around this one...
The old nursery rhyme about 'The Three Little Pigs' (you know it, with the wolf who was going to "huff and puff and blow your house down")
Well anyway, it turns out that a primary school in Huddersfield, England are changing the famous old nursery rhyme to 'The Three Little Puppies'
Why, you may ask?
Well, get this... It turns out that if you're Muslim, you may be offended by this and so the school do not want to upset anyone of other faiths.
I would love to hear any comments from those who are Muslim, to really see if it is something that would be a bother, or if the word racist is just being taken one step too far.
The above embedded video isn't quite the rhyme, but I thought it was a funny version anyway! Enjoy
So you're in the bar and can't agree who's going to get the next round, then have a look at this neat gadget: It's like one of those Simon Says games, where you follow the light pattern, then repeat. Whoever gets it worng Gets the round!Ingenius!
This is for the folks out there who have ripped their music collection but can't bear to throw their vinyl out. Like me. Fit a battery in this VW Camper Van, place its needle on the record, watch it race round the grooves, and think, "Jeez, the sound quality on this is abysmal". Well, what do you expect? Two other reasons why I won't be buying it: The Swarovski-studded model costs $487 and it only plays 33RPM.
The cartoon is hilarious!
As for the subject.. I've heard of such things before. Especially, when European fairy-tales are adopted to other religion countries. I don't know, really, perhaps it is for better understanding.
Well, fairy tales in many countries are very different, though the idea stays the same. Especially the cruel Grimm tales.
For example, an original Cinderella fairy tale involves pocking out the eyes of the bad stepmother and stepsisters.
Or original Pierrault Sleeping Beauty fairytale has a 'behind the scenes story'. When Prince Charming married Sleeping Beauty, he concealed this fact from his parents and only when his father King died, he brought his wife and two children to the Castle, while his mother turned out to be a cannibal. She wanted to eat Sleeping Beauty and her two kids, while Prince Charming was away. All ended happily.
So, maybe it's OK, when the fairytales are adopted not to hurt someone's feelings.
What da hell!
I'm muslim & I never even thought of that when I was a kid...oh but let me think for a second...at that time people had some common sense.
let me break it down for you. After 9/11 scam, a lot of muslim done lost their mind & jumped in the bandwaggon. alot of stupid people who didn't know nothing about Islam also jumped on the bandwaggon.
what is happening today is that 'muslim since 03' & arabic immigrants are taking avantage of the ignorance of European/american to get more advantages or more attention, or simply to stir tension.
Regarding pigs/pork, we are just forbidden to eat them, because there are too much bad germs in pork meat. But we won't go in hell for touching, looking at or saying the word pig. God, I know you can do better than that.
Plus it's not true that arabs adapt western stories to their culture. Whoever told you that is lying. The education is so different, kids barely hear about tales.
I really have to write that book on Islam, because it's sickening to see people blatantly lying about what God supposedly said. Hello! if someone is talking to God he might be religious, but someone who pretend God Talks to him is definitely psychotic.
In the old times before electricity and capitalism changed the world for ever fairy-tales like the one our friend verde mentioned played a different role in society and that's why they had to be so cruel. They suppose to prepare kids to pass from childhood to adulthood and get ready to get married, work, have responsibilities. Don't forget that e few decades ago the girls were getting married very early and had children as soon as they had their first period. So what we are calling now child back then was adult. Why am I writing all this? Frankly I forgot! Regarding the three pigs etc I believe is ridiculous and totaly hypocritic! It shows me that these people in England don't really know what they are talking about since as absatou said Muslims just don't eat pork, they don't get offended if they see an image of it! And if someone is offended by it (and I personally know one) then is probably some conservative idiot and I believe we all in our countries and religions have enough of those...
