While I could have taken the easy road and covered Super Tuesday like everyone else, I decided to post something that people might actually read. A new report is out about the Afghanistan drug industry and how to my surprise Opium production is going to be down in 2008. Fortunately for us potheads, Cannabis production will be up - so no shortage of excellent Afghan hash. I am against criminalization of drugs but it really pisses me off when I hear stories of how the Taliban are growing the poppies to support their side of the War on Terror. The Taliban are very strict, they are not the types of Muslims that you see drinking in a bar and then they try to make excuses. These guys take their faith seriously - and that is why when the Taliban were in complete control of Afghanistan, opium production dropped to almost zero. Do you know who were still growing poppies during this time? Our Allies in the Northern Alliance and the tribal leaders like Hamid Karzai who are now running at least the Afghan cities. Do you know what happened when "freedom" was re-established in Afghanistan? Opium levels went right back to pre-Taliban levels. This isn't even a secret, it has been reported time and again by major news outlets and yet George Bush still pushes the same rhetoric. The Taliban hates drugs more than America claims to hate them - so who do you think is really growing the poppies and weed?
