That's all I hear about on the news these days, well actually since November 1st, is that Black Friday is coming. First off, what happened to Thanksgiving? There are radio stations already playing Christmas music! Many of us joke that Christmas comes earlier every year but this is ridiculous and it shows much about our collective conciousness. The economy sucks, the dollar is not worth the paper its printed on, forcasters and economist deny inflation and an upcoming recession and all the while the talking heads keep spewing this garbage about Black Friday. Like a one day spree of crazed comsumer sheep is going to solve our economic woes. Sure it will...
Look, Black Friday is not the day it once was now that online shopping has taken a chunk out of it. And besides who is it helping? You save a little bit on gifts but you end up putting on your credit card, which will be payed off over the rest of the year. Do the math: you don't save a cent when you pay 19% interest. The only people who benefit from this sham are the owners and the stockholders. The owners get a chance to get out of the red while the sales give a favorable earnings report for investors - and thereby avoiding that awful "R" word for a bit longer.
But does anybody see that these bubbles burst? You do have to pay for this stuff in the end. What is wrong with our economy that it needs to be saved every year by the Middle-Class putting itself into debt? And any of you readers that can actually still remember seasons past (they do their best to let you forget it) you KNOW that things are getting worse.
