So far we are hearing of 300 dead, thousands displaced and things will probably get worse before getting better in Kenya. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), attempted to gather to protest only to be reminded by the Pro-Government police what they think of Freedom of Assembly. Let's see what happens on January 8th, when the ODM attempts to gather again...Let's not forget that this goes beyond political lines as economic and Tribal tensions have been flaring up as well. And what will the West do? Australia might do something, since 600 of its citizens are now trapped in what is basically a War Zone. Britain? Well so far they have cancelled all planned holidays and warned it's citizens from traveling to Kenya. The USA? If someone points out where Kenya is on the map for George W. Readers will already know what I feel about Bush's economic prowess , and the fact that he is still in denial about recession , stagnation and inflation or Stagflation as the cheerleaders on CNN now call it. well, Australia isn't what I would call "West" but that's not important. Concerning the rest I think the only "bad" people there are the ones who are rallying the protesters, knowing things would go out of hand(people getting hurt and killed) and hoping the "West" would intervene and help them rise to power
West in a socio-cultural-economic sense, not directional. BTW the West should intervene since it is our colonial legacy that has left Africa in such a mess and our economic policies keep the status quo. Sounds like you don't have a problem with that...
Kenya one of the most promising countries in Africa in terms of the economic development potential. Until now. The recent events clearly show that it is not ready for modern world yet. But, I want to comment your another remark that the World is silent. I know what you mean, I watched "Hotel Ruanda". But, with all that, US cannot be a world policeman. Do you know, how many military conflicts at the moment? How many people die in the clashes? US cannot fight on multiple War Arenas. There is even theoretically calculated amount: 2 or 3.
