No, I have not forgot about Kenya. Ralia Odinga of Kenya's ODM opposition party now has to answer to the Government's charges of Ethnic Cleansing. The more I look into this the more muddy the waters become and even though the current regime stole the election, it seems atrocities are being played out on both sides. As time goes on it gets harder to figure out exactly who the good guys are, if there are any.So far the numbers are comparatively small: 600 dead is tiny compared to the atrocities in Rwanda a decade ago, but the fighting may have only just begun. The violence in Nairobi has picked up again in the last few days and Kenyan Police are arresting fighters and even foreign journalists. Things started heating up again when an unarmed protester was shot and killed - but these are not all peaceful demonstrations as the mobs throw rocks, carry makeshift weapons and even gasoline to torch buildings. What started at the political level has broken down to tribal rivalries like similar conflicts throughout Africa. On the surface it is about an election but the violence shows the cultural and ethnic tensions that have been simmering just under the surface in Kenya since at least Colonial times.
Oh no! Celtics star Paul Pierce threw up a "Gang Sign" a couple of night's ago and now the world is up in arms. Now even if it was a gand sign, which it may have been, that does not mean "Truth" is a gangmember. And just how far have the PC police gone that you can't even try to intimidate your opponent on the court or playing field? What if Paul Pierce just went with the good old fashioned middle finger - that's not a gang sign but still conveys a powerful message. And I bet it would still be a front page story .For me it's an uproar in the wrong place - Paul Pierce isn't
In a struggle for power it doesn't matter who's good the ordinary people will suffer the consequences. In case of Kenya it's clear to me that the opposition is sponsored by another country. When I see the photos of people with signs "Kenya is a democracy..." makes me wonder do the people even know what is written on the sign at all.
Now a little about democracy itself. The point of democracy is that people can vote and elect their government and the leader of their country. It's all well and good but today to make a choice who to vote for you have to be really smart and be understand politics, at least a bit. Sadly this kind of people make about 10% of all population at most. The rest vote according to what they hear on TV, radio or what the neighbor said. So what's the point of democracy and voting when only 10% (or even less) know what they are doing? And i don't think people in Kenya really know who are they voting for. Same goes to many other democratic countries out there even USA. I Agree with you Jed, the situation in Kenya will probably get a lot bloodier
