I think i figured out what the large appeal of stores like like abercrombie, american eagle, or hollister (etc) are for teens. It's like Garananimals for grown ups!!You may or may not have heard of "Garanimals" a childrens clothing line. Each item of clothing features a tag depicting one of several nimal characters. The philosophy behind Garanimals is that by making it easy for children to choose coordinated outfits by themselves (by choosing pieces with matching hang-tags), children gain self-confidence.
The whole point is that mommies or daddies can go to walmart. Buy some t shirts and shorts and no matter what you can't put together a non-matching outfit. Saving your parents the time of getting you dressed, the whining of small children who think they're ready to dress themselves at age 3.What I'm trying to say is that everything at hollister matches! They don't sell black at these stores, only brown, because that way everything matches. Stores like abercrombie are for teens who haven't developed a sense of style, it's training you how to put an outfit together. Unfortunately in funky textiles that i will become misshappen and just feel gross on your skin!I don't really have a problem with these stores. I just feel like shopping here tends to make you lose a personal style, or never learn one.. Every season they churn out the same tank tops, polos, and jeans in slightly different colors, or same colors. I personally don't want to be over looked, and I wish I could have had more time developing a personal sense of style when i was in highschool instead. For example my friend kim (who never shopped at these stores): I may not LOVE everything she wears, but she does have her own personal style. Most of her clothes are very feminine, she has accentuated hips and isn't embarassed of them, and that's awesome :D. She is younger than me, and is farther along on the way of discovering this style than I am, even though I've had more time.
Overall, I believe my main point is, I'm sad that I don't have a lot of style. :D YET
